Super Bowl LI

Tomorrow we are starting the slice of life challenge. It is where we write everyday in March. I’m going to tell my story about Superbowl LI.

I got this idea from erms4pranav16’s blog: http://erms4pranav16.edublogs.org/2017/02/07/super-bowl-li/

On the day of Superbowl LI I was totally pumped up and ready for the Patriots to get crushed by the Falcons the highest scoring team in the NFL. For the coin toss, former President George H. W. Bush came in. It was going to be an easy win for the Falcons and that’s how it went for the WHOLE first half. The score was 21-3. Then, in the second half the Falcons go the ball and scored again and made it 28-3! It was definitely going to be a win for the Falcons, so my friends and I headed to the basement to play some xbox. When we came back up, the Patriots just scored their first touchdown but missed the extra point! The score then became 28-9. Then, the Falcons punted the ball, as they couldn’t do anything. Then, the Patriots scored a field goal making the score 28-12. Then, after the Falcons got the ball again, they had to punt it away. Then, the Patriots scored a touchdown again making the score 28-18. They went for two and it worked making the score 28-20. The Falcons punted the ball AGAIN! The Patriots had a second down. Tom Brady threw it to his trusted wide receiver, Julian Edelman, who made an amazing catch. They went down the field and scored another touchdown! It was the running back James White. It made the score 28-26. They had to go for two. This was the big moment – go big, or go home. They went for two and it worked AGAIN. It was 28-28. A stunning moment for all the Falcons & Patriots fans. The game went into overtime making it the first game in Super Bowl history that went into overtime. The Patriots won the toss. They elected to receive the kickoff. They scored a touchdown. That’s it, lights out for all the Falcons fans. The biggest comeback in super bowl history. The Patriots sideline in cheers, the Falcons sideline in tears. Tom Brady won the MVP award as he won his FIFTH Super Bowl with the Patriots making it the fifth Super Bowl title for the Patriots too.

Puerto Rico Trip

During this winter break, a long time before, in the end of 2016, I went to Puerto Rico. In Puerto Rico we did many things. We stayed at a resort called El Conquistador Resort. It was made in 1960, but renovated in 1997. On the first day, we went to a beach on the private island of the resort which was called Palomino Island. We had tons of fun there but the beach didn’t have any waves, so it wasn’t as fun as a regular beach. But all the other days a TOTALLY made up for that.

On the second day, I went to a rainforest called El Yunque National Rainforest. At the rainforest there was a small waterfall, so we went there first. We went to the top on a rock and our friends took a picture of my family and I. After that, there was a trail that we went on. It was about a mile of walking. It took about 45 minutes to get there!

On the third day, we went to the old capital called Old San Juan. We went to the fort there. It was a fort to protect the Spanish land from the from the British, and later the Americans. There were also a few stores that our moms went to. Once we came back to the resort, we went to a restaurant and got our own room! There was also a TV that we used to watch Thursday Night Football between the New York Giants and the Philadelphia Eagles.

On the fourth day, we went snorkeling! It was the first time I ever went snorkeling. We got snorkeling masks and flippers which I just threw off because it was annoying. First, we went to the shallower areas, 4-5 feet, to “practice”, then we went to the deeper areas, about 25 feet deep. In the deeper area was where we saw a whole school of fish! There were about 40 of them.

On the fifth day and final day, we went to the Resort Water Park! It was so awesome. There was a part which looked like it was never-ending water, but it ended. At about 12:20 we had to sign out!  FALSE ALARM! We didn’t actually have to sign. Only one of the families that we went with had to go that soon. After we figured that out, we did a resort activity called Scout-About. We had to go around the resort and collect these rubber bands to show that we had been to the place and then we could cash it all in for a resort rubber band. It was really cool! Sadly, in the late night, we had to go. It was really sad because we had a great time there. But, we can’t stay there forever. That is how my Puerto Rico trip went. Really fun!

Our Class Mission Statement Process

Just today, we finally got to see our final class mission statement. It said ”Every day, English opens a new chapter. I will pick up my books and pens and take down the monster that is known as doubt.  In English there is no limit to what you can write or what you can read. I will explore new ideas in my daily writing with creativity. I will listen and be involved for the better of the class. This room is where we are on the same team, so we will forgive and understand because everyone has a story. We express ourselves with confidence. Staying focused and showing kindness to others will be the key to success for this year. This is the room where you can be yourself. Be kind to everyone, everywhere, everyday. We’re savage–no one can change that. In the end there is one thing you need to take away from this class, and that is…… YOU CAN DO IT!

Before trying to finalize the ideas, we had a lot of work.

We had to first brainstorm ideas with our group or by ourself. Then, we made those ideas into our group’s mission statement. Next, we voted on which ideas were the best from what we heard. Finally, our teacher wrote a whole class mission statement on the most voted ideas.

My favorite part of the whole thing was reading and seeing the final class mission statement that we all worked hard on to make. My least favorite part, on the other hand, was brainstorming ideas. It was really difficult since it felt like our brains were dead at the time we were brainstorming. The easiest and hardest parts, though, were voting on the ideas. The easier part was that all we had to do was raise our hands on the ideas we liked. The harder part was to vote on the really good ideas. There were many of them but we had to narrow it down to a very few amount.

But, personally, I think writing the class mission statement was really fun. I think this is somewhat what it felt like to write the Declaration of Independence with all the narrowing of ideas.
